entered eternal life

We deeply regret to announce the passed away of very Rev. Fr. Samuel Akdemir on Friday October 07

"Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies and God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our tribulation, that we may be able to comfort those who are in any trouble, with the comfort with which we ourselves are comforted by God." 2 Corinthians 1: 3-4

With great sorrow we received the news of the death of the late very Rev. Fr. Samuel Akdemir of Istanbul entered the eternal life on October 7th, 2011

May the Lord bestow His mercies and add his name to the list of His invitees to His heavenly banquet. May He bring comfort to the heart of his family, and all his relatives and acquaintances.

On behalf of Archbishop Mor Clemis Eugene Kaplan, the clergy of the Western Archdiocese, we offer our heartfelt condolences to His Eminence Mor Philoxenus Yusuf Cetin and the clergy of his Archdiocese. May the Lord have mercy upon us by his prayers, Amen.

Let us recall his briefly life:
Samuel Akdemir, the son of Ibrahim and Hana, in 1919 was born in a village called Zaz of Midyat district, province of Mardin. He completed his secondary school education in Midyat; his Syriac and Christian education also in the village Aynvert.

He was appointed first as Koruyo then as Afudyakno by the Archbishop of Turabdin Mor Timoteus Tuma in 1940. In 1950 he was assigned to Deyrulzafaran monastery as a teacher by the Archbishop of Mardin Mor Filiksinos Yuhanon Dolabani.

He has been sanctified as a Biblical Deacon in January 8th 1951 by the same Archbishop , and in 1956 as a Priest of Mardin Mor Petrus and Mor Pavlus Church. In the same year he has been sent to Mosul Theological School for a year to increase his knowledge to a higher level and especially to strengthen his Arabic.

Samuel Akdemir serving about twelve years in Mardin, came to Istanbul in 1963 by the request of Syrian Orthodox Congregation. In 1976 he was promoted to the office of Hori (Archpriest) by the Archbishop of Aleppo Mor Diyonosiyos Circis and by the Archbishop of Beirut Mor Atanasiyos Efrem.

Hori Samuel Akdemir was assigned to Deputy Patriarch by the His Holiness Patriarch Moran Mor Ignatius III. Yakup in 1977. Akdemir being spiritual leader until 1986, has important and useful services in Istanbul Archdiocese.

Beside his work "Our Religious Rules", which was written in Turkish and printed in 1972, Hori Samuel Akdemir translated the books called Spiritual Treasure and Teodora from Arabic into Turkish in 1989 and 1993.

EMEKTAR İSTANBUL SÜRYANİ HORI SAMUEL AKDEMIR VEFAT ETTİ

Büyük üzüntü ile Hori Samuel Akdemir’in vefat haberini aldık. Süryani Kilisesi'nin emektar Abune'si Hori Samuel AKDEMİR, 7 Ekim 2011 tarihinde ebedi hayata girdi.

Uzun yıllar İstanbul'da yaşayan Süryanilere ruhanilik hizmeti veren Horiepiskopos Samuel Akdemir 92 yaşındaydı. Hori Samuel Akdemir son yolculuğuna 11 Ekim Salı günü saat 15.00'de Topkapı Kozlu Süryani Kadim Mezarlığında uğurlandı. Hori'nin duaları bizlerle olsun, yerini cennet olsun.

 

Abune'yi Kısaca Hatırlayalım:

İbrahim ve Hana’nın oğlu Samuel Akdemir, 1919 yılında Mardin’e bağlı Midyat ilçesinin Zaz köyünde doğdu. İlkokulu Midyat’ta; Süryanice ve Mesihsel öğrenimini ise Aynvert (Gülgöze) köyünde tamamladı.

1940 yılında Turabdin Metropoliti Mor Timoteus Tuma tarafından önce Koruyo, daha sonra da Afudyakno olarak resmedildi. 1950 yılında Mardin Metropoliti Mor Filiksinos Yuhanon Dolabani tarafından Deyrulzafaran Manastırı’na öğretmen olarak atandı.

08.01.1951 tarihinde aynı Metropolit tarafından İncili Şemmas, 1956 yılında da Mardin Mor Petrus ve Mor Pavlus Kilisesi’ne Papaz olarak takdis edildi. Aynı yıl içinde bilgisini daha ileri bir düzeye taşımak ve özellikle de Arapça’sını güçlendirmek amacıyla bir yıllığına Musul Teoloji Okulu’na gönderildi. Mardin’de on iki yıl gibi uzun bir süre Papazlık görevini yerine getiren Samuel Akdemir, 1963 yılında Süryani Ortodoks Cemaati’nin isteği üzerine İstanbul’a geldi. 1976’da da Halep Metropoliti Mor Diyonosiyos Circis ve Beyrut Metropoliti Mor Atanasiyos Efrem tarafından Horilik rütbesine yükseltildi.

Hori Samuel Akdemir 1977 yılında Kadesetli Patrik Moran Mor İğnatiyos III. Yakup tarafından Patrik Vekilliği görevine getirildi. 1986 yılına kadar Ruhani Reislik yapan Akdemir, İstanbul Abraşiyesi’nde önemli ve yararlı hizmetlerde bulunmuştur.

Hori Samuel Akdemir’ in Türkçe olarak yazdığı 1972 yılında basılan “Dini Kurallarımız” adlı eserinin yanında, 1989’da Arapça’dan Türkçe’ye çevirdiği Ruhsal Hazine adlı kitabı,1993 yılında yine Arapça’dan Türkçe’ye çevirdiği Teodora adlı kitabı ile 2009 yılında yazdığı İstanbul Süryanileri adlı kitapları vardı.
