His Eminence Abouna Matthias elected as the 6th Patriarch of the Ethiopian Orthodox Tewahdo Church

The Ethiopian Orthodox Church (EOC) said so far 800 followers of the Church have got registered to cast votes for the 6th Patriarch of the Church. It said the stated number of archbishops, department heads of the patriarchate office, ancient monasteries and churches, clergy, followers of the EOC and Sunday school students, among others, are registered to vote for the new patriarch. The election will be held on 28 February 2013 and the result will be made official same day in the evening. So far the election process is peaceful and fair, the Church said. The Church had earlier set a timetable to elect the 6th Patriarch.

His Eminence Abune Mathias, Archbishop of  Jerusalem, is elected as the 6th patriarch of the Ethiopian Orthodox Tewahdo Church (EOTC).

The Western Archdiocese of the Syriac Orthodox Church of Antioch, providing Syriac news, spiritual guidance and leadership to the Syriac Orthodox community, is a 501 (c) (3) non-profit, tax-exempt organization comprised of 18 churches and parishes in 17 western states. It was established in 1952 as the Archdiocese of the Syrian Orthodox Church encompassing the entire United States and Canada. In November 1995 by the Holy Synod of Antioch, the Western Archdiocese was formed to exclusively serve the 17 states of the western half United States.
