St. Peter Church High School Bible Study

After months on Zoom, we finally were able to meet back in person at the church! We started with prayer and then focused on the Gospel of Matthew Chapter 5: 1 - 12.

These scripture verses focus on the Beatitudes, which tell us something about what our attitude should be. Each one starts with the word "blessed."

Blessed are the pure in spirit
Blessed to those who mourn
Blessed are the meek
Blessed are those who seek righteousness
Blessed are the merciful
Blessed are the pure-hearted
Blessed are the peacemakers
Blessed are those who are persecuted for God

It describes a person who puts God first in his/her life. We have to remember not to live selfishly, be humble, and do not think highly of ourselves. Many things happen to us in life that bring us grief, but God will comfort us when we turn to Him. We talked about Moses, who is described as a meek person because he knew that whatever he accomplished was not by his own power but by the power which God gave him. Therefore, we should give credit and glory to God.

We can be pure in heart if we fill our minds with good thoughts. If we listen to the evil things of the world, our hearts and minds can easily commit a sin. We need to be careful of the things we watch, read and hear. This aligns with the Beatitude, "blessing for the pure hearted."

The students had to write down the number of minutes they average daily on their cell phone on social media/gaming/YouTube versus the number of minutes they spend with God. They each then have to share their post it with three other people and compare. Their post-its are going to be saved and used as a reflection in the upcoming weeks as we continue.

After Bible study, we walked over to In-N-Out, had a great dinner together, socialized, and look forward to our next Bible study and social gathering this Monday, June 14th, at 6:00 p.m.! The Bible study will continue to focus on Matthew chapter 5, and we will review the Beatitudes and then discuss the meaning of Aboon Dbashmayo.
